Non-Paid Summer Interns

RILA welcomes students interested in oral histories, archives, research, writing, community outreach, and arts programming. Internships arranged for academic credit are preferred. Paid opportunities may be available depending on funding and the scope of work.

Community Programs Coordinator | Up to 35 hours per week | Anticipated compensation: $30,000 annually

Will work with RILA’s Executive Director to coordinate community arts and oral history activities. Responsibilities include planning activities, communicating with artists and community partners, supporting story collection, and documenting project progress.

We seek someone with demonstrated experience coordinating programs or community projects who can manage a schedule, anticipate next steps, and follow through with limited supervision. Strong organizational skills and communication in English and Spanish are required. Familiarity with Rhode Island’s Latino communities and local organizations is preferred.

This position combines remote work with in-person activities across Rhode Island. Access to a reliable car for work-related travel is required, along with availability for occasional evening and weekend events.

Community Artists — Two Opportunities | Nine-month contract project in 2027 | Anticipated stipend pool: $6,000, divided between two artists

RILA seeks two artists to support a project connecting community stories, history, and artistic expression (visual art and/or performing art) in Woonsocket and Newport. Artists will participate as needed over the nine-month project, with activities and schedules agreed upon in advance.

Applicants should have an established creative practice, experience engaging community participants, and the ability to plan and complete agreed activities independently. Availability for in-person work in Woonsocket or Newport and access to a car is required. Please submit work samples and a brief description of your approach to community collaboration.
