La Galería del Barrio, located inside the Southside Cultural Center (SCCRI) on Broad Street, is Providence's first urban art gallery dedicated slrely to the art of Latinx, Afro-Latino and Indigenous-Latinx art. It is a light and bright inviting space for viewing curated art exhibitions. With free on-site parking and free entry during gallery hours and during special events, La Galería is a wonderful place to visit.
Gallery curator Marta V. Martínez with support from David Sánchez of SCC, bring the best in local art and artists to showcase Rhode Island's position as a true art mecca. Opening night receptions are free and open to the public, and a great opportunity to meet and mingle with these talented artists. Don't confuse this new gallery with La Galería del Pueblo, located since 2015 at 209 Central Street in Central Falls. This is Rhode Island's first gallery and cultural hub dedicated solely to the exchange of Latino art and art expression.
La Galería hosts monthly Artist MeetUps on the fourth Thursday of every month, which include opportunities for artistic exchange such as poetry readings, script readings, and networking in Spanish, English and/or Spanglish. We also host art exhibitions in our small, intimate, space, featuring local art curated for public viewing.
Lastly, La Galería is also the home of the Latino Oral History Archives and Collections, with a recording space to share oral histories.

The Castaleers | Rhode Island’s Premier Doo-Wop Group
Rhode Island is blessed to have its share of key players in the world of rock and roll vocal group harmonizing.
Rhode Island is blessed to have its share of key players in the world of rock and roll vocal group harmonizing. Recent Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame inductees, The Videls and Gerry Granahan are prime examples. However, one Providence-based quintet made their moves at a time when they were still in Junior High School and Rhythm and Blues music was not on anyone’s radar. Practicing and performing simply for the pleasure of it, they grew into a well-honed, professional act which secured a contract with a national record company and competed with the superstars of the day.
